FC Barcelona made a controversial decision when choosing to go with halved shirts for the 08/09 campaign. The Barcelona kit is usually comprised of a red and blue vertically striped shirt with blue shorts and blue and red striped socks. For the 08/09 season the blaugrana chose to do away with tradition. Aside from the halved shirts, they introduced solid blue socks. Also the shade of red used in this kit seems to be lighter than the maroon Barcelona usually uses. While some would criticize this departure, I believe this Barcelona shirt is very nice, and is part of one of the best kits of the new season. It also happens to look very much like the 98/99 centenary shirt, so tradition is being upheld, in a sense.
Manufactured by Nike, the shirt is red and blue, halved right down the middle. Plain rounded collar. Manufacturer logo on the right chest in striking bright yellow, classic FC Barcelona badge on the left chest. Sponsor(unicef) wordmark & logo across the front, also in yellow. On the inside of the collar are the words “Mes Quen Un Club”(More Than a Club).
You know the club will immediately return to their famous stripes after this season, so this version of the Barcelona shirt becomes instantly collectible.
This is one of those shirts that cries out for name & number printing. The bright yellow and classy font just go so well with the red and blue shirt that you almost have to get it printed. Fortunately, Barcelona leave you no shortage of great players to choose from. Would look great with a PUYOL – 5, XAVI -6, INIESTA – 8, ETO’O – 9, MESSI – 10, HENRY – 14, or even a BOJAN -11 or TOURÉ YAYA – 24.
