Having been purchased by Abu Dhabi United Group Investment and Development Limited just prior to the start of the 2008 stadium, Manchester City finds itself in a new place entering the 08-09 season now having massive financial backing behind it and owners who are committed to taking The Citizens to the top of both England and the world. This was underscored by their transfer record breaking purchase of Robinho on deadline day, stealing him from under the noses of Chelsea for £32.5 million. And with this new era of potential City dominance comes new shirts from Le Coq Sportif.
The French manufacturer, being a smaller company, only has a handful of kit-supplier contracts (two in the Premiership, with the other being Stoke). Thus, you know their kits are designed carefully and fashionably to make a big impact despite their smaller market share. The 08-09 Man City home kit is evident of that; sporting City’s beautiful sky blue color, the kit maintains a minimalist look with only a thick white stripe running down the left of the shirt (both on the back and front) and a slightly darker sky blue stripe that runs down the right of the shirt. On the right shoulder is the black Le Coq Sportif logo, and black is also the color of the sponsor’s text on the centre of the shirt. Above it is the famous Manchester City crest, which stands bold and proud eleven years after its creation in 1997. The shirt is beautiful in its simplicity and captures the essence of City’s hardworking players and their loyal fans.
Official Barclays Premiership name and number printing is available from UKsoccershop. This navy blue text contrasts nicely with the light blue of the shirt, making for a clean appearance. Show your support of the record breaking transfer and a love of attacking flair with a 10 – ROBINHO shirt, or your appreciation of rising talent with a 14 – JO shirt. Alternatively, use your own name and number for that ultra-custom feel.
